Your Viking Quest Novels
Your Viking Quest books inspired me to appreciate everything I had or ever had experienced. As a teenager I'm constantly running into bad situations, where every time I think the world will end if my life gets any worse. I learned from these books that no matter how appalling my situation might be I can turn to God and he will always be there to turn it around, and have something good come out of it....
This summer I sprained my ankle a couple of times and it stretched out the ligaments so much that I couldn't play soccer in the fall. This as you can imagine was very difficult to deal with, physically, and emotionally. I had to still go to all the games but I sat on the bench the whole time and watched. By reading your Viking Quest series I was able to handle this situation with more grace and patience than I would have if I hadn't read them...
So, I am writing you to thank you for publishing such inspirational books that have helped many teenagers like me to realize the importance in life and not to give up so quickly. Your Viking books captured me and I couldn't put them down. These are the types of books that will keep me reading until three in the morning! The characters that you have created seem so real that I never want the book to end....I also enjoyed how the books weren't very predictable because that always adds to the suspense.... Thank you!
Sincerely, Emily, 13, New Hampshire
Your Tales from Norway
Thank you!!!...We have read aloud all of your books. Sometimes around the fire, for school (when we home schooled) and any time we could. I wanted to thank you for your time invested in the accuracy of the history, the life you've given each book, and the lessons you have taught my children. You, Mrs. Johnson, have become a part of our family, and for that we are truly grateful. It will be a pleasure to sit around a fire in heaven with you as you tell us more stories.

P. S. My father-in-love is an immigrant from Norway. Your tales from Norway have truly hit a precious vein! My husband was named after Prince Harald, now King Harald.
Thank You For Making a Character That is Blind
I am an 8th grade blind student and his aide. We have been reading your Northwoods books and love them!!! We are reading Mystery of the Missing Map right now. Thank you for making a character that is blind. I can hardly wait to find out what happens next to Kate, Anders, Eric and Megan. I really liked The Disappearing Stranger and The Runaway Clown. Thanks again for making your books. We'd love to hear from you.
God bless you!! M.
Reading Cousins
At right: Cousins from two families enjoy the Adventures of the Northwoods novels in read-aloud times with Mom and Dad. From left to right: Hans, Nicole, Annah, Seth, Derek. In front: Amelia. From Wisconsin and Minnesota, they plan to read the Riverboat Adventures next.
Thanks!
Fourth grade students in Pennsylvania read Escape into the Night for their summer reading project. Their teacher says, "Even though it was required reading you can tell they loved it! As a result, many students have continued reading the Riverboat series. Thank you for providing this excellent tool for teaching history!"
From a Dad in Switzerland
....Although you obviously get lots of praise from your readers, I just want to let you know I'd give your books to any child (or adult) who would like to read them. They are somehow different. There are huge heaps of books for children that are quite interesting to read but - if I may say so -lack almost any content. Your series, besides being exciting, also have a message. So God bless you in your work.
Sincerely,
Walter Sägesser, Switzerland
Letters to Lois and Bree
How can I begin to tell you how much I love your books? I was recently introduced to them by my mom, who met you at a young writers' conference she attended with my brother and sister. We started reading Raiders from the Sea for our read-aloud time and couldn't put it down! Just this past Saturday we finished the last Viking Quest book. I must say that I was very sad when they were over. I'm kind of a bookworm, so I really feel as though I'm friends with the characters of a book by the time I'm done....
Thank you again, Lois!
Abby, 14, Minnesota
Abby also wrote a letter directly to Bree. Here's part of it:
I want you to know what an inspiration you've been to me, Bree. Your courage to win has helped me to know that God will be with me and take care of me wherever I go.
Give Shadow all my love and a scratch behind the ears! Say hello to Flurry, too, if he is still living with Rika and Sigurd....
